It almost seems to be undulating at me...

Miniature rose from my front doorstep.

Michael likes roses. Neither of us have the green thumbs required to grow full sized roses in pots; nor the garden to grow them in the ground. There's usually at least one miniature rose at our place, though - this one decided to bloom just in time for his return from Singapore.

Red 6

Red 6

By the pricking of my thumbs... ouch.

When I visualised this photo, it was a lot more dramatic. My whole hand was in the shot, for starters. And there was more blood. A lot more blood.

But when you're sitting with a finger-pricking lancet and a hand, it seems there's only so much blood you can squeeze out. And you'd be surprised how hard it is to frame a shot when you can't actually look through the viewfinder, and are sitting with a remote in your right hand, and a rapidly congealing left hand waving in front of the lens. Thank the gods for an autofocus camera.

The things I do for you people!

Bubbles under red light.

The joys of a leftover darkroom globe and some contact-juggling balls of Michael's, this is. Bronwen and I once again had fun in the fireplace - she was working out the strange optical properties of the globes, and I was trying to recreate the solar system.

Wednesday nights around here are... odd.

Theme for the week starting Monday 11th February, 2008

This week's theme is in honour of Valentine's Day. I had suggestions of flowers,
hearts, and the Houseguest was very keen on 'Bitterness'. Instead, this week's theme...

...is RED.

My new coat.

On Sunday I was very sore. The meds weren't helping, and I felt creaky and slow and stupid - everything hurt, and the effort required to do anything seemed all too much. Then I found this coat; well, oversized cardigan. A nice high, fluted collar, sleeves that fit comfortably into crutches, and a good warm length to fall midthigh and hug. You can see the softness from the picture, and the finger-stroking texture. I bought it, of course, and it came home with me.

It being nearly summer, though, I didn't think I'd get to wear it until the season turned. Luckily Sydney weather took pity on me, and it's been cold and rainy ever since. The cold makes my aches worse, but I'm bundled in a warm, soft fire-engine comforter, so it all seems better.
