Coffee 6

Coffee 6

Cafe, Newtown.

My local cafe, this is. It's a place where I don't need to order; I just sit down and know that a coffee will turn up. The staff nod and say hello, and don't feel the need to go through the formal welcome-behaviours they do with non-regulars. It's comfortable.

When I first had the nerve damage, and was going stir-crazy sitting at home and staring at the walls, this was the place I would come to, just to sit, and read, and be somewhere else for a while. It'd take me almost half an hour to do a walk that used to take less than ten, but I wouldn't care. The cafe may have saved my sanity, contingent though it is.

It seems to be a part of inner city life that cafes are an extension of home. It's a space people feel comfortable in, and natural. You can often spot the non-locals simply because they don't seem to be entirely at ease. I keep meaning to shoot a series around the concept of cafes as 'home' spaces; I really should get off my proverbial and do it!

Extra 4

Extra 4

Succulents and seashells.

This was a leftover from last week, unsurprisingly enough. It was Xole (who has her own blog , unsurprisingly called A Succulent Obsession) who got me interested in succulents; the shells were my idea.

It's a photo to fit my mood today; quiet and soft and a little convalescent. I've tendonitis in my wrists again, which made walking very painful yesterday, and my digestive system is being rebellious today... I'll spare you the details. So quietly cloudlit pictures of small details seemed appropriate.

Boxes and boxes and boxes...

We move on January 2nd. Until then, home is delineated by the maze of boxes, in addition to the usual architecture of shelves and walls and couches.

Home 5

Palms and laundry wall.

It's one of those days where you stumble home in a daze, and sit on the couch in a stupor waiting for energy enough to fall asleep. I am so glad it's Friday.

My study

It's a very prosaic week this week, and today's picture is no exception. Welcome to my study. It's shared - although you can't see that at the moment, since it's split down the middle by the wall of boxes. I sidle my way in and out.

Kitten, pensive

Despite the boxes and the disarray, some things still say home. Some of them are intangible. Others are very tangible, and very, very cute.

By the way, that thoughtful look usually means she's debating whether or not to kill something.

Boxes and boxes and boxes...

It turns out I haven't dislocated a finger, as I thought - I've just got tendonitis in both hands, and the inflamed tendon is catching on the joint. Ow. Still, most of our lives is in a series of boxes crammed in every space we can find. Still no definite answer on where we're taking them to.

Home 1

Home 1

Our house, in the middle of our street.

Someone stole the 'Sold' sticker; I've no idea why. It made things annoying when people knocked on the door wanting to inspect our home, but that's all done with now.

Still no news on a new place, and the deadline for us to be out is getting closer and closer. We're pretty much packed, but we don't know where we're going, yet.

Theme for the week starting Monday 17th December...

... is HOME.

A somewhat ironic theme this week, as our home has been sold, and we have only a very little time left before we're out on our ears. We hope to find out tomorrow that we've been okayed to move into a new place, so I'm hoping that this week's photos can show the transition from one home to the next, rather than just the dismantling of our lives... but we'll have to see.
